meet the Founder

Cassandra Hovet, MSW, LCSW, LICSW

Cassi has been working in Social Work since 2012, and has been a therapist since 2015. Cassi received both her Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Master's of Social Work from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Cassi is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Dakota and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Minnesota. She has worked in several different settings, such as Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, non-profit organizations, State Organizations, and for-profit organizations.

Cassi has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with children with Autism, Crisis Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. She has experience with individual therapy, couple's therapy, and group therapy, with special interest in helping those with a trauma history, those struggling in their relationships or with intimacy, setting boundaries, and those struggling with their self-image.

Cassi says, "It can be a difficult and overwhelming experience trying to decide whether therapy is the right fit for you. For the best experience and most therapeutic journey, it is important to find a therapist whose personality and therapy style is a good fit for you and your needs. I have a direct, but empathetic communication style. You are the expert in your life, and your therapy is your journey. As a therapist, it is my job to be your guide for your therapy journey. Meet our therapy team

Miranda Confer, MSW, LMSW

Miranda is an enthusiastic and compassionate mental health therapist who is eager to embark on her journey of supporting individuals, couples, and families. While she is newly transitioning into the role of a therapist, Miranda brings over 12 years of invaluable experience as a social worker, where she honed her skills in understanding and navigating complex human experiences. She built a strong foundation at the University of North Dakota, earning her Bachelor's of Science in Social Work in 2012 and her Master's of Social Work in 2013. As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Miranda's extensive background has primarily focused on providing crucial support to children and families through various challenges, including life transitions, trauma, and crises. This experience has instilled in her a deep appreciation for the power of healing and growth. Miranda is passionate about the positive impact of therapy, stating, “I’ve personally seen the positive impact that therapy provides time and time again. Therapy has immense power to change people’s lives. I look forward to being a part of your healing journey!” She is excited to apply her dedication and insight to her new role, offering a supportive and empowering space for clients to achieve their therapeutic goals. 


Miranda sees clients ages 5+ with a special interest in working with individuals who have experienced (or are experiencing) foster care, adoption, and trauma.

Lori Mohagen, MSW, LMSW, LAC, LADC

Lori Mohagen graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice in 2008.  She then pursued her Master’s degree in Social Work and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2018.  Lori is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor in the state of North Dakota and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of MN.

 

Lori has 16 years of clinical experience working with adults with both mental health and substance abuse issues. She uses a person-centered, recovery management approach in therapy along with a variety of treatment models including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, with a lot of emphasis on self-care.  Lori  has achieved her certificate of completion in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International and is currently accepting clients with perinatal and postpartum mental health, infertility and pregnancy/infant loss.  Lori says: "I work to meet you where you are at and provide a safe therapy space to heal, grow, and find balance." 


Lori sees clients ages 18+ and does individual, couple's, and family therapy. Lori can see clients in North Dakota or Minnesota, and offers in-person or virtual sessions. 

Kylie Ogorek, MSW, LCSW, LICSW

Kylie comes to our private practice with experience in the healthcare field. Kylie has experience with directing the mental health department at Kittson Healthcare in Hallock, Minnesota. Kylie has a passion for mental health care and is excited to work with clients in a private practice setting. Kylie graduated with her Master's degree in Social Work from Winona State University in 2021, and completed her internship with Kittson Healthcare. Kylie has experience treating children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. Kylie completed DC: 0-5 training through the Minnesota Department of Human Services in 2023, and is fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). Kylie sees all ages, but specializes in children and adolescents. Kylie offers individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. 


Kylie says, “Many people seek therapy to help them navigate through all the twists and turns in life. I am passionate about my work with children and teens to help them process these challenges. My therapeutic approach is collaborative. I strive to show empathy, warmth and compassion. I enjoy working with individuals from a multitude of different backgrounds and of all ages. I enjoy working through a variety of different things, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, ADHD symptoms and familial issues. I often utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities in my practice, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and motivational interviewing.”

Katrine Sampaio, Office Manager

 "Hi there, I’m Katrine! I’m the friendly face you'll see at the front desk here at Amber Waves Therapy. Originally from Brazil, I’ve lived here in the US for a long time. My goal is creating a welcoming and comforting space for our clients. With a background in clerical work and years of experience focusing on client care, I’m here to help everything run smoothly. I also have a degree in English teaching and have spent many years teaching, especially children. Whether it’s arranging your appointments or handling the details behind the scenes, I truly enjoy keeping things organized and ensuring your experience is as great as possible.  I’m a proud mother of three wonderful boys, which keeps me busy and always learning! I love my family and have a deep passion for music. I look forward to helping you with your next visit at Amber Waves Therapy!"
